Jedna z největších mediálních firem na světě spokojeně sleduje rostoucí zájem o službu Disney+, která příští rok dorazí také do České republiky.

Oficiální česká stránka streamovací služby Disney+ dosud nabízí jen možnost odebírat newsletter. Zatímco v Německu nebo Rakousku už mohou diváci sledovat bohatou produkci včetně filmů ze studií Marvel a Pixar, my patříme mezi východoevropské státy, které se dočkají až po novém roce. Přesné termíny další expanze Disney+ pravděpodobně zazní při prosincové telekonferenci pro investory.

Streamovací služby dělají mamutí zábavní skupině Disney velkou radost. Disney+ roste rychleji, než sama čekala: v polovině září si službu celosvětově předplácelo přes 60 milionů uživatelů. Dalších více než 40 milionů platilo za streaming sportovních přenosů na ESPN+ a videotéku Hulu.

V pondělí proto firma oznámila strategickou reorganizaci svého mediálního a zábavního podnikání. Zaměří se na produkty a služby poskytované koncovým zákazníkům, zatímco spolupráci s distributory a komerčními partnery vyčlení do samostatné divize.

Základním směrem bude nyní tvorba původního obsahu pro všechny výše uvedené streamovací platformy ovládané společností Disney.

Příliš jiných možností na stole nebylo. K vyšším investicím do streamingu přiměli firmu Disney její akcionáři, kteří sledují, jak koronavirus zamával s tradičními zdroji výnosů. Provozovat a udržovat například zábavní parky je v době pandemie složité, když do nich návštěvníci reálně nemohou dorazit, ať už kvůli rozhodnutí úřadů, anebo kvůli vlastním obavám. Firma v této souvislosti propustila 28 tisíc lidí.

Ani nákladné filmové blockbustery spoléhající na tržby z kinosálů nejsou teď to pravé. Kina jsou prázdná, velké řetězce na dobu neurčitou zavírají a zábava se přesunula domů do obýváku. Akcionář Daniel Loeb napsal generálnímu řediteli společnosti Disney otevřený dopis, v němž si vůči tradičnímu kinobyznysu nebral servítky. „Když zavírají kina, máme to všichni spojené s určitým smutkem a nostalgií, ale nepochybně měli lidé stejné pocity i v době, kdy koňské povozy nahradil automobil,“ citoval z dopisu magazín Variety.

Generální ředitel Bob Chapek vydal prohlášení, v němž manažerskou řečí připustil, že firma musí být „efektivnější“ a „hbitější“, aby „dodávala obsah zákazníkům způsoby, kterými ho chtějí konzumovat“. „Týmy našich tvůrců se zaměří na to, co umí nejlépe, tedy na výrobu prvotřídního obsahu pod jednotlivými zastřešujícími značkami, kdežto náš nový globální distribuční tým se zaměří na co nejoptimálnější distribuci a obchodování napříč všemi platformami, včetně připravované mezinárodní streamovací služby Star,“ uvedl v tiskové zprávě k reorganizaci.

Zmíněnou streamovací platformu Star oznámil Disney poprvé v létě. Také tato služba má být v budoucnu mezinárodně dostupná, přičemž její obsah bude vycházet z nabídky televizních stanic ABC, FX a Freeform, a dále z katalogu filmových studií Searchlight a 20th Century Studios. Podle srpnového oznámení má být technickým základem platformy Star existující infrastruktura Disney+. Firma chce zkrátka využít značky, obsah i technické prostředí, které už stejně vlastní, a poskládat je do jednoho produktu.

Na každém trhu bude Star vypadat trochu jinak, Disney si kvůli tomu zaplatil rozsáhlý mezinárodní průzkum. Značku dosud používá v asijském regionu, její domovskou zemí je Indie. Oproti tomu Hulu se nejspíš nakonec nestane mezinárodní službou, protože značka této služby nejlépe funguje ve Spojených státech, kdežto v zahraničí ji málokdo zná.

Digitální aktivity jsou momentálně nejslibnější oblastí celé skupiny Disney. Investice do vývoje pořadů, seriálů a filmů má pomoci k tomu, aby povzbudila zvědavost a zájem nových předplatitelů. Hodnota akcií po oznámení nové strategie vzrostla.

K vylepšování tržní pozice Disney+ přispívají protiepidemická opatření v různých státech, kvůli nimž lidé často zůstávají doma. Některé hotové filmy se tedy studio rozhodlo uvést právě na streamovacích službách. Například premiéra snímku Mulan byla k dispozici za extra poplatek 30 dolarů.

Firma Disney oficiálně nekomentovala, jak tato náhradní strategie zafungovala. Z trhu přicházejí rozpačité reakce, podle nichž byl zájem amerických předplatitelů o dobrodružný rodinný snímek o čínské bojovnici Mulan spíše vlažný. Hraný remake animovaného filmu Legenda o Mulan z roku 1998 se natáčel s rozpočtem 200 milionů dolarů. Tržby z digitální distribuce se ale pohybují mezi 60 a 90 miliony dolarů, a když měl film konečně kinopremiéru v Číně, ani tam se na něj diváci zrovna nehrnuli.

O Vánocích na Disney+ dorazí animovaná pixarovka Soul (Duše), ale ta už bude bez příplatku. Na trzích, kde Disney+ dosud není k dispozici, by měl film podle místních možností zamířit rovněž do kin.

Zatím naposledy expandovala služba Disney+ v polovině září, kdy se jí dočkalo osm dalších států: Portugalsko, Norsko, Dánsko, Švédsko, Finsko, Island, Belgie a Lucembursko. Měsíční sazba je 6,99 eur, roční předplatné vyjde na 69,99 eur.
